Belmont County Courthouse
101 W. Main St. The county seat was originally called Newellstown. In 1803, it was renamed in honor of Gen. Arthur St.Clair, first governor of the NW Territory.

Great Western Schoolhouse
National Rd. (I-70 Exit 213, west on Rt. 40) The “little red schoolhouse” was constructed in 1870 with bricks made of clay from the banks of a nearby farm pond. The school was used continuously for primary and middle grades until 1952. It contains old-fashioned desks with built-in ink wells, McGuffey Readers and a potbelly stove, along with many other items traced to days gone by. While the building does not have “regular” open hours, anytime the flag is up, you are welcome to come in, or by appointment. Call Belmont County Tourism 800-356-5082. Admission.

National Road Bikeway
(740) 695-0156 for more info. I-70 Exit 216, travel south on Rt. 9 about 1/2 mile. Turn right at the bottom of the hill ( just before the turn takes you uphill). The parking lot at start of bike trail is here. Travel the bike trail north. This trail was a railroad line used by the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad, now asphalt.
