Cumberland Trail GS meeting

October 9, 2018
St. Clairsville Public Library
Due to the library’s closing for Columbus Day, Cumberland Trail Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting Tuesday, Oct. 9th at 6:30 PM in the Meeting Room at the St. Clairsville Public Library, 108 W. Main Street, St. Clairsville. Guest speaker will be Dr. Scott Pendleton, president of the Harrison County Historical Society and long time student of local postal history. Pendleton will be presenting a talk about these postal offices. Postal history is the study of the post office, how it operated and the transmission of letters. He will be discussing how local offices received their names, why they were opened, when they were, and other details of the mails in the county. Where were the Upland, Anvil and Cabinet post offices located? What were they like? Come find out at the meeting. He will be happy to explain any envelopes you may have if you bring them or a photo. All CTGS meetings are free and open to the public.
