Belmont County- Did you know that Belmont County is home to a famous inventor, many prominent sports figures, actors, famous poets and a barn painter? Did you know that Belmont County is the home of two events that received national attention? Jamboree in the Hills was voted the second most popular country music festival in the nation. The Barnesville Pumpkin Festival broke both state and national records in 2017. Did you know that the county’s rich history includes a ship builder, an influential abolitionist, infamous judge and the state’s first native-born governor? Belmont County is also the home of Ohio’s first female elected sheriff. Did you know that the area is home to ancient petroglyphs, prehistoric villages, and historic buildings and landmarks? Did you know that Belmont County’s industrial history includes breweries, glass factories, cigar manufacturers and other companies? These are just some of the many interesting facts that you will learn about when the Belmont County Tourism Council launches the “Did You Know?’ social media campaign this month on its Facebook and Instagram pages. The “Did You Know?’ facts will be posted at the beginning of each week. Barb Ballint, Executive Director says the office recognizes the importance and value of using social media for marketing. “Social media establishes recognition to the events and attractions in Belmont County,” said Ballint. Ballint stated that research shows at the end of 2016 there was over 1 billion Facebook users monthly. She also has been told by many of the local event and attraction chairs, that they have noticed an increase in attendance since Belmont County Tourism has started social media promotions. Ballint said Belmont County Tourism Council Administrative Assistant Cathryn Stanley has researched the county’s history, attractions and events. Both Stanley and Ballint are surprised at what they have learned during this process. “The purpose of the campaign is to entice our followers to frequently visit the media post, which will keep them informed of the happenings in the county”, says Ballint. It also allows feedback from our visitors and those who attend the county’s attractions and events. Find out why we say Belmont County has “strong roots and a bright future”.
